Frequently Asked Questions

Straight answers about security shutters, timelines, pricing, and what you actually get.

General Questions

Security shutters are heavy-duty barriers — typically made from aluminum — that cover doors, windows, and storefronts. They roll down or fold across an opening to create a physical barrier that stops break-ins, smash-and-grab attempts, and vandalism.

Unlike alarms that alert you after the fact, shutters prevent entry in the first place. There’s nothing for a thief to work with once they’re down.

Yes. A rolling shutter eliminates the glass storefront as a point of entry — which is how the majority of smash-and-grab break-ins happen. When thieves see shutters, they move on. The math is simple: they need speed and silence, and shutters take away both.

We’ve installed shutters for 160+ businesses. None of them have had a successful break-in through a shutter we installed.

We work throughout Northern California — Sacramento, San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, Vallejo, Napa, and surrounding areas. We’ve also taken jobs outside NorCal when the fit is right. Call us at 707-840-3435 and Jessie will tell you straight whether we can get there.

Product Questions

Rolling shutters coil up into a compact housing above the opening and deploy vertically. They’re sleek, can be motorized, and are the most popular option for storefronts. When open, the housing sits discreetly above the door frame — most customers won’t notice it.

Accordion shutters fold horizontally to the side like an accordion. They’re manually operated, cost less than rolling shutters, and work well in spaces where a top-mount housing won’t fit.

Both provide solid security. The right choice depends on your opening, budget, and whether you want motor operation. View all products →

Yes — motorized is available on rolling shutters. With a key switch or remote, shutters open and close in seconds. You can also add smart controls for app-based operation or scheduling.

Accordion shutters are manual only — that’s part of what keeps the price down on those.

Solid shutters completely block the view when closed — no visibility in or out. Good for pharmacies, dispensaries, or any business that wants full concealment after hours.

Perforated shutters have small holes that let light through and allow window displays to remain visible when closed. The physical security is the same — the only difference is visibility. Popular with retail stores that want their signage and merchandise seen even at night.

Standard options include white, black, gray, bronze, and brown. Custom colors are available. We discuss this during the on-site consultation so you can match your storefront.

On rolling shutters, the housing sits above the opening — compact and low-profile. Most customers and passersby don’t notice it during business hours. We can discuss housing placement and finish options at the consultation to keep things looking clean.

Installation Questions

Most single-opening installs are done in a day. Larger storefronts or multiple openings may take 2–3 days on-site. We work around your schedule and can start early or finish after close to minimize any disruption.

For the overall timeline from quote to install: shutters are custom-fabricated to your opening dimensions. Manufacturing and transit together typically take around 15 days from the time we place the order. Add scheduling on our end, and the full process is often 3–4 weeks. We’ll give you a realistic estimate when you book.

We do both exterior and interior installs. Most exterior work can happen while you’re open for business. Interior work — like counter shutters — typically requires brief access to the area being worked on. If you’d rather we work before or after hours, just let us know — we’ll schedule accordingly.

Permit requirements vary by city and county. Some jurisdictions require permits for exterior modifications; others don’t. We can help you understand what’s typically required in your area and provide specifications your building department may need. In many cases, the business owner pulls the permit — we provide the technical documentation to support that process.

In most cases, yes. We’ve worked with standalone storefronts, strip malls, multi-tenant buildings, and warehouses. During the on-site consultation, Jessie looks at the opening, the wall structure, and the available headroom to confirm what will work — and he’ll tell you honestly if something isn’t feasible.

Pricing & Financing

Every project is different. The main factors that affect price are:

  • Number and size of openings
  • Shutter type — rolling vs. accordion
  • Manual vs. motorized operation
  • Solid vs. perforated slats

The only way to get an accurate number is to have Jessie come out and look at the job. Request a free consultation →

Yes. We offer monthly payment plans so you don’t have to wait for the next budget cycle to get protected. See financing options →

Yes — a deposit is required to start manufacturing your custom shutters. The remaining balance is due at completion. If you’re financing, your payment plan covers the structure — ask us about how that works at the consultation.

Warranty & Service

Every installation comes with a standard warranty covering parts, slat finish, motors, and labor. An optional Labor Protection upgrade is available at the time of install for extended coverage. See the full breakdown on the warranty page →

Minimal. We recommend cleaning the slats occasionally with mild soap and water, and lubricating the tracks once or twice a year. That’s about it. With basic care, shutters hold up for many years of daily use.

Call Jessie directly at 707-840-3435. Warranty work and post-install adjustments are handled by the same person who did the install — no ticketing systems, no third-party service calls.

Sometimes. Give us a call and describe what’s going on — motor issues, damaged slats, track problems. If it’s something we can help with, we’ll tell you. We won’t commit to servicing every system sight unseen, but we’re happy to take a look.
